You may come across a situation where your parents need help - either at work or starting some new venture. No Code platforms are a great way to empower them with digital solutions to their challenges. If your parents have an office-based job or run a business, here’s a way to introduce them to No Code and make their lives easier.

In an article, entitled The Rise of Low-Code App Development, Forbes discusses the growing trend among businesses to employ low code solutions to business problems. Well, why wouldn’t they? For every 100 people, 99 of them can’t code, and technology is not going to become less prevalent in our lives any time soon. In this study, Gartner imagines that low/no-code apps will comprise 65% of all app development by 2024. This is not simply a trend; it’s the new norm, and will only spread.

If you’re in business, you’re in marketing. The capability to produce all the products and services in the world comes to nothing if nobody knows you exist. Therefore, every business has an existential need to get their message out.

Much like a jigsaw, a business has a great many things that make up the whole. All are required to get to the end with a completed product. Sure, you can get by with a piece missing here and there - You can look at an incomplete jigsaw from afar, and still know what it depicts, but closer inspection will reveal something’s not quite right

In his enthusiasm for speed, and your best timekeeping interests at heart, the driver threw the car about like GTA V, forgetting, curiously, that the passenger might also wish to arrive in some comfort. It would not be enough to describe you as simply wearing your coffee.

What this allegory means, I’m sure we’ll never know.

Now, onto today’s topic - user experience! More specifically, attempting to create a good one.

What do digital applications and home cooking have in common?

Once you’ve tasted a great Thai curry, you’re hooked. And the only thing that tastes better than someone making a meal for you is the triumph of creating a better one yourself. What if you could take the same approach to build Apps?

The App is built. The day is won. You sail off into the sunset, victorious, contented.

A few years later, you return to visit your creation and bask in the glory of grateful users. What greets you, though, is not the polished utopia you left behind. Instead, what greets you is the App equivalent of Lord of the Flies, as told by the directors of Castaway and The Road. The few remaining users sit around a thin campfire with a thousand-yard stare.

Where did it all go so wrong?

The age of no-code isn’t coming. It’s very much here, and those that don’t switch to an App platform to run their businesses, instead of relying on Google Sheets, or Excel, will be very much left behind.

You let go. Chilled champagne sails through the air and breaks into a million pieces in a cloud of glass and bubbles on the bow of your brand new ship. The brass band begins to play. Ropes are cut. 45,000 tonnes of steel and hard work begin to slide down the slipway.

So, you now know what you need the App to do, and what data you need to collect. Well, how are you going to do it?

As with the poet laureate and the child, it’s possible for you to put one Longtext Field on a page, and allow the user to write everything they want to write; date, time, name, case number, etc, into the Field, and be done with it.

You can put some Fields on a Form and they’re in a language a user can read. So what? Both a poet laureate and a school child can put words on a page. The difference between a collection of Fields, and a functional App, is in the execution.
